The unemployment rates are relatively high in most townships, which motivates drug abuse in South Africa. Especially the youth is vulnerable for the temptations that drugs may offer and the fact that drugs are easy accessible for both adults as the youth, only supports this temptation. In addition, there is a lack of policy reform and lack of positive financial expectations which all contribute to the high numbers of drug abuse in townships. With a high number of drug abusers comes a high number of crimes since drugs need to be financed. Therefore, it is common that children and young adults turn away from school.
With this knowledge, it is important that we give the youth in these communities a distraction which is valuable for their futures and provides them with life skills and fun.
