Even though the average income of a household in DuNoon is less than R5000, the parents and adults work full days. With the guardians leaving the house early and coming home late with sometimes nightshifts included, children are mostly left unsupervised. Therefore, general neglect is a huge issue which we as an organisation try to avoid by offering these children fun times while being involved in the Youth Academy.
With no supervision and low incomes, the situation can be seen as a vicious circle, the one factor influencing the other. In order to break this circle it is important to provide an environment where children can be children by being able to play, are supported, feel safe, and have the feeling that there is positivity and chances in this world even when you come from a compromised environment.
